Wildflower Wander

Beginner - Intermediate level hike 1-3 miles depending on wildflower bloom prior to festival.
Join James Gray, D'auntie Carole and Ryan Santos for a wander amongst the sage brush and juniper to gaze at the magical spring wildflowers. You'll learn their names, life cycles and cultural significance.

Intro to Crack Climbing

This clinic is perfect for folks who are curious about or are looking to advance their technical skills in crack climbing! Under the beautiful basalt backdrop of the Lower Gorge at Smith Rock, you will learn techniques for climbing cracks of all shapes and sizes.

Rappelling Adventure

This day is meant for folk who want to go have a fun adventure but without the rock climbing! You'll learn how to rappel and you'll lower yourself down a 40' cliff! Then we'll travel through time and scramble through a basalt chasm!

Guided Sport Climbing

Whether you're a top rope hero or venturing into multipitch terrain, rescue skills are essential to being safer and more self-sufficient in the outdoors. This clinic covers self-rescue using common equipment climbers carry on a day out. We'll work hands-on to address the most common rescue scenarios, using skills like ascending a rope, assisting a stuck climber from above and below, escaping the belay, rappel techniques, and more.

Rope Systems for Climbing Photography

In this clinic, you'll learn how to set up a fixed rope on an anchor, and how to ascend a rope to get yourself in the perfect position for that perfect shot. This hands-on experience will be focused on rope systems for photographing rock climbing and the two different ways to ascend a fixed rope. Once everyone has mastered the rope skills, Sam will share his techniques, tips, and tricks for photographing climbing while on the wall and you'll be able to practice.

Body Inclusive Intro to Climbing

This is a space to learn the basics of rock climbing in an environment in opposition to diet culture. All bodies are welcome, and the guide will be plus size. This is the comprehensive clinic for those who enjoy sport climbing in the gym and want to take their skills outdoors. You’ll learn about crag etiquette, outdoor-specific lead and top rope skills, how to build and evaluate safe sport climbing anchors, and how to safely take them down. We’ll also practice real transitions to lowering off or rappelling, to prepare you for crags that can only be accessed by leading.

The Art of Climbing Photography

Come join Samuel Crossley as they share their tips and tricks to help you make a climbing image you’ll love. This clinic will focus on theory at first with Sam giving an art of climbing photography presentation. You’ll be required to submit your climbing photographs so we can review them as a group after Sam’s presentation. This will facilitate validation on what you’ve done well, and reveal specific things you can improve. After the group review, you’ll be free to make some climbing images, your chance to put what you learn to use! As a group, at the end of the day, we’ll review and celebrate the art you made!

Have you always gazed up at the tall walls of places like Yosemite Valley, and wondered how to climb them? This clinic will cover the essential skills for ascending walls that are too hard to climb without aid - that's placing and pulling up on gear, rather than making upward progress with just our hands and feet. We'll go through basics of aid climbing with and without ladders, "jugging" or ascending a fixed rope, big wall anchors, hauling your food and overnight gear in a haul bag, as well as packing and planning for multiple days on a wall.
Prerequisites: This course is for those who have some trad climbing experience, e.g. by taking an Intro to Trad course, or having gone out trad climbing with a friend a few times. No leading experience necessary.

It’s time to gain some elevation! To close out a weekend of gazing at the Smith Rock skyline, this is your chance to join one of our queer guides up there on a multipitch objective. Each climb will have a maximum of 2 clients, and routes will be custom-selected for your abilities and goals.
Prerequisites: Lead belaying experience is preferred. You should be comfortable climbing 5.8 outdoors and feel prepared to spend time at heights far from the ground.
